"Where Every Voice Builds a Bridge."

Our Strategies
(Nos stratégies)
The Voices in Education Foundation (VIE) turns vision into action through four
interconnected strategies designed to foster inclusion, empowerment, and sustainable
impact. Each strategy reflects our belief that strong communities begin with strong
relationships between families, schools, and the broader society.
1. Community Engagement and Empowerment
• Host bilingual (English/French) parent workshops that demystify Alberta’s education
system.
• Create safe and inclusive spaces where immigrant and Black families can share
experiences and advocate for their children.
2. Culturally Responsive Education and Training
• Deliver professional learning for educators on culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) and
equity-focused assessment.
• Develop bilingual teaching resources that honour identity, culture, and language.
3. Partnerships and Collaboration
• Strengthen relationships with community organizations such as the Diverse Roots
Foundation to amplify shared impact.
• Engage schools, faith communities, and local networks in co-designing family engagement
programs.
4. Sustainability and Capacity Building
• Implement strong governance, fundraising, and volunteer systems to ensure
organizational longevity.
• Nurture youth and parent leadership through mentorship, training, and intergenerational
initiatives.
Together, these strategies move us closer to an equitable education landscape — one where
every family’s voice shapes the future.

About Us

Voices in Education Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Alberta, dedicated to supporting immigrant families and advancing culturally responsive education. Founded by Yvette Jean-Jacques, a Haitian-Canadian educator and school leader with over 20 years of experience, the foundation was created to bridge the gap between schools and families—especially those navigating the system as English Language Learners (ELLs).

We believe every student deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. That’s why we work with educators, families, and communities to build inclusive classrooms where identity is affirmed and every voice matters.

Through professional learning for teachers, workshops for parents, and advocacy for inclusive assessment and curriculum, we help make education equitable and empowering. Whether it’s through our Teacher Toolbox, our Navigating Alberta Education Together parent series, or community events, we’re committed to transforming classrooms into spaces of belonging and opportunity.

Bridging Home & School: How Parents Can Navigate Alberta’s Education System with Confidence
As parents, we all want to support our children’s success at school — but navigating the system can sometimes feel like deciphering a new language. At the Voices in Education Foundation, we believe that when parents understand how the school system works and feel confident in that knowledge, children benefit. That’s why we’re excited to share this practical guide to help you become an informed partner in your child’s education journey.
