Our Story
From Translation to Transformation
Voices in Education began with a question: What happens when families feel empowered to engage, and educators are equipped to respond?
Our founder, Yvette Jean-Jacques, has personally experienced this journey. As a child who immigrated to Alberta from Haiti, she entered the school system with determination—and a language barrier. She became an interpreter for her own family, then for others, helping parents navigate report cards, interviews, and systems they didn’t fully understand. Over time, she became a teacher, then a principal, but the story remained the same: families were being left out of the conversation.
Voices in Education was created to change that.
Today, our foundation brings schools and communities together through culturally responsive programs, family engagement workshops, and professional learning for teachers. We believe that assessment, Education, and student success must reflect every child’s identity—and that parents are essential partners in that process.
We are not just filling gaps. We’re building bridges.
